  • So...it's been a long time since I've posted.  I am still looking for a job, (yeah, I know, I'm a big loser) and it's been pretty frustrating.  I've applied at two different employment agencies and neither of them have been very helpful.  I've sent my resume around, applied at different places, and still nothing.  This town does not have much unless you're in the medical field, trucking, or production.  But God has really been faithful and He continues to amaze us in the way He provides for us.  This is Josh's last semester, so hopefully we will be moving back to Springfield this summer.

I have started working with my greeting cards again, and a couple weeks ago, I felt so frustrated about trying to get my greeting cards out there, and I just thought, "Man, I wish I could do this!"  And almost immediately I felt the presence of God so close, and I felt that He was telling me that I could do this.  That was incredibly encouraging and exciting for me!  So I decided to gather up all my Valentine cards and take them to some local businesses.

Then Monday, after an already bad day, I realized that I had left them in the trunk of Josh's car, and I didn't know that it has leaked ever since the accident.  And it rained last weekend.  So my cards were all wrinkled up at the bottom and a little damp.  I was so devastated, because those were ALL my Valentine cards, and I had spent money to get them printed.  I was pretty discouraged and could not understand WHY that had happened.  Then yesterday morning, after getting ready and everything, I went to see if they were dried yet because I had set them out on the dryer, and I did a double take.  They dried back without ANY sign of wrinkles!!  And I know I am not looney because Josh had seen them when they were wrinkley, and he was just as amazed as I was when we saw that they were fine.  We both felt like God had a part in it!!!  He really is amazing!  So yesterday, I took some of my cards to a tea room/antique shop, and the lady is going to let me sell them there.  Yay!  I'm not sure if I'll take them anywhere else just yet; I don't know of a lot of businesses here in Joplin.  But praise God that my cards are okay and I was able to take them somewhere!

Well, Josh and I moved to Joplin about a week ago.  We decided that that was the best thing to do because I couldn't find a job that was paying what I was making before, and with him commuting back and forth from Joplin every day, we really were going through our savings fast.  So we found a house for rent about 2 1/2 miles from his school and decided to rent it.  My mom and dad and my sister and her family and my friend Noemi helped us move.  We could not have done it without them!  It was fun having my family and my friend around and made things less stressful.  So anyway, when we got everything packed into the trailer and all of the vehicles, we all made our way to Joplin and to the house.  The house is very interesting because it's sort of out in the country, which I love, and you have to go down this super long gravel driveway to get to the house....like you can't even see the house from the road.  Once you get to the house, it's surrounded by trees on three sides, so you can only see your neighbors that are on the west side.  The house is pretty plain on the outside, but it has nice new carpet and new vinyl in the kitchen/dining room.  It's kind of an older house, which we found very charming, and I love that I can see cows in the field behind our neighbors house!  But when we moved in, as we were putting furniture in and stuff, we noticed all of these glue traps everywhere for bugs.  Most of them were empty, but then my nephew found two with a bunch of spiders in it.  *Shudder*  I hate spiders.  And immediately all of us turned to my sister, who at one time lived in a house infested with brown recluses, to see if she could identify them.  When she went over to inspect them, I took one look at her face and I knew they were brown recluses.  I had to leave the room because I was so shocked and upset.  I mean, we went from an apartment where the only bug problem was knats to a house with freakin poisonous spiders!  So that was quite the downer.  Also we found some mouse traps that were stored in the pantry, so that was even more encouraging.  Funny you never think of these things when you first go to look at a house or apartment.  So after everyone left that night, Josh and I went to Wal-mart, prepared to arm ourselves with every kind of poison and trap we could to battle these pests.  We laid out more glue traps that night, but I checked them in the morning and they were still clean.  *Whew*  So now that the initial shock has warn off, and we haven't actually found any live brown recluses, I am feeling better about the house and enjoying it more.  I love the kitchen.  Everything is so light and there are two huge windows that let in the sun that filters through the trees outside the house.  And quite frequently in the evening when we are coming and going, we see rabbits running around and it's so funny, because they run infront of the car and do a kind of zig zag run, and don't actually get off of the driveway for awhile, so it's hard trying not to hit them!  I don't want to hit one...they are so cute with their fluffy white tails.  I spent the week unpacking everything, so now the only thing that hasn't been unpacked are my winter clothes.  We are still having 70 degree weather unfortunately.  It's very interesting living in a small town; I've lived in Springfield for 12 years so it's rather amusing to see all the differences. But they do have a coffeehouse downtown, so I will have to check that out!  Well, I am getting so sleepy that I can't type right, so I better get going!

  • So...I am still unemployed.  It is rather depressing...I haven't been unemployed since I was like, 17 years old.  I had two interviews at Headquarters, but I'm guessing it didn't work out, because it's been a week since I had them.  Anyway, I finished reading this book called "God's Smuggler" and it was really, really good and I think I read it at a good time, because he was basically unemployed and depending on God to provide him with money and a way to smuggle bibles into communist countries, and God never failed him.  It is amazing how many cool things God can do.  So while I am waiting to find a job, I am trying to still be happy and to trust God to provide us with the things we need, and so far, He has.  But there have been such crazy things that have happened...first it was losing my job because of a budget cut, then it was Josh's tuition at school going up...then it was the wreck he had on his way home from Joplin (where he goes to school) and although he spun out of control after being hit from behind, he did not go over into on-coming traffic thanks to his car hitting the railing.  I am so thankful that he was not hurt...I had prayed for him that morning and was glad that I did.  At first they said his car was totaled, which was discouraging, but then they said that it wasn't, and so were glad about that.  Then today he had a blowout on his way to school and was stranded, so I went to go get him, only the place he had turned off onto was so hard to find, and I didn't have a cell phone...to make a long story short, I ended up driving around on I-44 for about 3 hours trying to find the stinking place he was at!!!  So he had to miss his classes, and he was supposed to preach in his class today.  :o(  Luckily, my brother-in-law had found out about it and was on his way to Joplin anyway for a service call, so he helped him out...I guess he had to use a sledgehammer to get the tire off, it was stuck on so hard.  I was just so stressed out driving back and forth, trying to find this place where he was stranded.  All that to say....I FEEL PRETTY FRAZZLED!  But once again, I am so thankful that Josh was not hurt.

Isn't it amazing that we are almost in the middle of OCTOBER?  Wow!  Christmas will be here before we know it.  But for now, and I very much enjoying watching the trees slowly change color and having cooler weather.  I bought this Celestial Seasonings Chai tea that my sister introduced me to, and it is soooo good and just feels right for this time of year.

I think tomorrow I will go to the library and check out "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

  • So....I am a married woman now!  How weird is that?  Well, I've had over 2 months to get used to it now, and I am a little more used to it than I was before.  Josh and I had a wonderful honeymoon...it was nice to relax after the stress of the wedding planning.

And now my sister and her family have moved to Springfield and are my neighbors!  Yeah, it only takes me a few minutes to walk over to their house from my apartment.  I am so excited that they moved here.  It's fun to have them so close...last week we all went to the fair together.  It was almost as much fun watching the kids on the rides as going on them ourselves...they were laughing and squealing like crazy.  We all shared a funnel cake and rode some rides...it was fun.

Josh took me to see the movie called "March of the Penguins"...it's a documentary about penguins, and since I *love* penguins so much, it was awesome to see!  It's narrated by Morgan Freeman.

We are housesitting for my parents while they are gone for the next two weeks, so it's nice to have cable, internet access, and laundry facilities since we don't have those in our apartment.  :o)
